Description
There was an increasing surge of engine noise as a multitude of barges and other landing craft turned on their engines. The white ensigns were flowing freely from the stern of all the craft. It was all quite a sight. The crews waved to each other and shouted encouraging comments as we let go our buoys or hauled in the anchors. We all had our private thoughts and wondered what was to lie ahead.
