Description
Astonishing X-Men Volume 3 No.4 October 2004 ‘Gifted Part Four’
Previously in Astonishing X-Men:
The X-Men have reassembled, and the Xavier Institute For Higher Learning has once again opened its doors.
The first mission for the newly reconstituted X-Men is a hostage situation at a charity gala, orchestrated by an alien calling himself “Ord of the Breakworld.” Once they defeat Ord, however, they learn that he was merely a distraction from the real crisis: Dr. Kavita Rao’s announcement to the public that she has isolated the mutant gene – and found a cure.
This news sends shockwaves through the Xavier Institute community. The students are distressed and confused, and the X-Men themselves are unsure how to proceed. Secretly, Beast pays a visit to Dr. Rao (an old colleague of his) in her labs at the Benetech Corporation, and she gives him a sample of the serum so he can verify her results – and possibly use it himself.
Colonel Nick Fury of S.H.I.E.L.D. confirms to Cyclops that that the weapons used by Ord’s henchmen are indeed S.H.I.E.L.D. design. But if he knows more, he’s not talking. Later that night, Beast examines the serum in his lab…and makes a shocking discovery. The X-Men have got to get to Benetech-now.
