Description
There is no doubt that the evacuation of more than 330,000 allied servicemen from the beaches of Dunkirk in 1940 was one of the most daring manoeuvres of World War II, and the story of this miracle of deliverance is one of the most compelling ever told.
What seemed like an impossible task was achieved as a result of a remarkable series of events that began with the appointment of Winston Churchill as Britain’s Prime Minister in the weeks prior to the fateful days in late May and early June, when Adolf Hitler had it within his grasp to destroy the British Expeditionary Force.
Follow the course of the fleet of civilian boats, ranging from yachts to pleasure cruisers, that braved the elements out in the English Channel, not to mention the sustained attacks of the Luftwaffe, to bring their countrymen home, safe and sound, to fight another day.
